How to choose the right lipstick shade for your skin

Choosing a lipstick is not only about trends: it depends on your skin tone and whether its undertone is warm or cool.

Find your undertone

Look at the veins on your wrist. Green-leaning means a warm undertone; blue-leaning means cool. Neutral undertones show a mix of both.

Warm undertones

  • Coral and peach
  • Rosy brown and terracotta
  • Slightly orange-leaning reds

Cool undertones

  • Soft pink and fuchsia
  • Cherry red
  • Deep plum

For daytime

Pick a shade within two tones of your natural lip colour — it is the most versatile choice for work or class.

Test the shade on your fingertip rather than the back of your hand: the colour there is closer to your lips.
